South Ayrshire Council have received 5,000 coronavirus (COVID-19) Home Test Kits to help tackle the 'silent spread' of the virus.
Between Friday 4 December and Wednesday 9 December, South Ayrshire residents who are not displaying symptoms of the virus, will be able to test themselves using the Home Test Kits.
The kits, which are provided by the NHS, will be distributed from pop-up facilities which have been set up in Kincaidston Bowling Club, Bracken Park, Ayr; Lochside Community Centre, Lochside Road, Ayr; and Maybole Town Hall, High Street, Maybole.
You don't need to make an appointment to collect a Home Test Kit. You can go along to collect and return your test kit at any of the three locations between 10.00am – 4.00pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and 8.30am - 5.30pm Monday - Wednesday.
The tests are free, quick and easy to use, and you can expect results back within 24-48 hours.
South Ayrshire Council staff will be on hand at each location to direct members of the public who attend.
Asymptomatic testing is crucial to slowing the spread of coronavirus, and the Home Test Kits will allow more people who are infected with COVID-19 to be identified, isolate quickly and limit the spread to others.
Councillor Peter Henderson, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said:
"We know that asymptomatic testing is vital to slowing the spread of COVID-19, and I welcome the arrival of the Home Test Kits in South Ayrshire.
"The kits will allow us to take further steps to help control the virus in the area, and ultimately speed up the recovery process in our communities.
"I would encourage as many South Ayrshire residents as possible to get along to one of the three facilities and make use of the Kits."
