As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will resurface around 1kilometre of the A76 at Crockroy near Kirkconnell.
In order to complete the £236k project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to close the trunk road over the weekend from 7pm on Friday 8thto 6am on Monday 11th June, with an additional two overnight closures from 7pm to 6am on Monday 11thand Tuesday 12th June.
Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer said:
“This is the first project in a summer programme of investment for the A76. The trunk road, one of the most exposed in South West Scotland, has been significantly affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles during a prolonged winter. Scotland TranServ is accelerating a number of projects to address these carriageway defects.
“We’ve been working with local authorities and key stakeholders to schedule these improvement works to be delivered with as little disruption on the communities as possible. The weekend closure will be necessary to carry out this lengthy resurfacing scheme as efficiently as possible.”
Because of the depth of resurfacing and narrow width of the A76 in sections, it will be necessary to implement a road closure in order to protect the health and safety of our workers and the travelling public. There are also limited diversion options for larger vehicles and therefore recommended routes are likely to add several minutes to journeys.

This concentrated programme of improvements for the A76 is one of a number of such schemes being scheduled by Scotland TranServ to deliver long-term benefits to commuters, local communities and businesses across South West Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.
