A77 Autumn Investment announced including weekend road closures

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ is proposing to combine several resurfacing and improvement projects for the A77 this October.

In order to keep disruption to an absolute minimum for commuters and freight traffic using this busy route, we are proposing to combine the works into two weekends – Phase 1 and Phase 2. This extensive programme of work will see the resurfacing of nearly 10,000m2 of carriageway at various locations between Cairnryan and Maybole. Details of which can be viewed below.

Following a particularly harsh and prolonged winter, the condition of the trunk road deteriorated. Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out around £2Million of structural maintenance investment in addition to these phased programmes. With the onset of Autumn/Winter it is essential that we accelerate this programme of works to take advantage of the milder weather before the winter begins. Scotland TranServ has worked alongside local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders to schedule these works for maximum efficiency and minimum disruption. Together we have worked to schedule these projects outwith the busy summertime period, when traffic volumes are higher. However, the safety of the trunk road user is paramount, and a planned scheme is always preferential to emergency works.

Summary of proposed works Below is a brief summary of the main points: Current condition Potholes are appearing on a weekly basis and the carriageway is deteriorating quickly. Current Repairs We are fixing potholes on a weekly basis, repairing localised areas which are reaching the end of their maintainable life. Proposal In order to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, our proposal is to close the trunk road over 2 weekends in October. To maximise the efficiency of these closures we are also proposing a number of other works be carried out to maximise the efficiency of these closures.
