ADN Travel - A78 at Barrs Cottage Parapet Improvement Works
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ is replacing the coping and parapets on the A78 Inverkip Road at Barrs Cottage.

The existing parapet is at the end of its intended design life and requires upgrading to ensure continued safety to members of the public using the adjacent footpath. Scotland TranServ is working with a number of utility companies to coordinate works in the immediate area, and reduce long-term disruption. Jason Rashed, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the programme said: “We have been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key stakeholders to schedule these works to reduce the impact on the community, commuters and businesses. We have developed a programme alongside utility companies to streamline their elements of the project and ensure the smooth transition between each phase.

“In order to protect the health and safety of workers, pedestrians and the motoring public, it will be necessary to narrow the lanes, and in some phases of the programme to implement single lane closures. Where possible, we are all working together to reduce the overall impact of these works through the implementation of this traffic management.”

With the addition of these utility works, it is expected the project will run for approximately 18 weeks, from the middle of May. The Scotland TranServ element of the programme is proposed to run from late August for around 6 weeks. During this proposed programme of works, live travel information will be available at trafficscotland.org, or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter. Drivers are asked to expect some delays and to plan their journeys accordingly.
