There is less than two weeks to go until this year’s Scottish International Airshow, but planning for the policing operation which will support the event has been ongoing for many months.
The event returns to the Low Green at Ayr for a fourth year, on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September, with some of the best pilots and most famous aircraft performing breath-taking manoeuvres over the beautiful Ayrshire coastline.
The free event is expected to be bigger and better this year and will feature the world-famous Red Arrows on Sunday 3rd September. Ayrshire's Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Paul Main, is in charge of policing for the policing operation at the Airshow and commented "We are delighted to be supporting the return of the Scottish International Airshow and have been working very closely with the event organisers, South Ayrshire Council and a range of partners to plan for this event. “Public safety is at the core of the Airshow Policing Operation and we want to ensure that spectators have a safe and enjoyable experience whilst minimising the disruption to the local community and road network. “Given the current threat level of 'SEVERE', visitors will see Firearms Officers deployed in and around the event. This type of deployment is now routine in crowded places and while there is no specific threat to any event in Scotland our advice to communities is that they continue to be alert but not alarmed. “This promises to be an action packed and exciting event for Ayrshire and we are looking forward to being part of it.”
