Appeal for information following wilful fire in Saltcoats

Detectives are appealing for information following a wilful fire in Saltcoats.

Around 11.20am on Saturday, 2 May, 2026, we received a report of a fire at a property on Canal Street.

Emergency services attended, the fire was extinguished and there were no reports of injuries.

Following enquiries, the incident is now being treated as attempted murder.

Detective Constable Neil McGregor said: “This reckless, deliberate act of setting fire to the door of the property could have had far worse consequences and it’s vital we trace whoever is responsible.

“Extensive CCTV and door to door enquiries are being carried out by officers but I’m appealing for the public’s help as part of our investigation.

“Were you in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously? Did you see anyone running away or a vehicle leaving the scene? If you have any information, please contact us.

“I’d ask anyone who lives in the area with private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage to also review this for anything significant.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1252 of 2 May. Alternatively, you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
