Ayr Care Home Celebrates Scottish Rally Championship Star
A Doonfoot care home was host to a special award ceremony this month to celebrate resident, Roy Campbell, a prominent figure in the Scottish Rally Championship (SRC).

A former Navigator in the SRC, Roy (AKA Jack) was presented with a trophy from the Ecosse J1000 Challenge for his unwavering dedication to the Junior Championship, as well as the Becksport People's Champion Award along with his driving partner, Andy Kelly (AKA Victor).
A private dinner was arranged for Roy at Meallmore-operated Greenan Manor Care Home in Doonfoot, along with Andy, Roy’s wife Sandra and Alasdair Beck from Becksport, a video production company that specialises in motorsport, who presented the People’s Champion Award. They were also joined by Alasdair’s parents, Robert and Helen Beck.

Roy was a Navigator in The Scottish Rally Championship from 1970 until 2025 and is a former Chairman of the SRC. His career took him all over the world, and he was proud to be part of the gravel crew for racing legend, Colin McRae. Roy and Andy were also two times category champions during their years competing.
This exciting career might not have happened, if not for a chance encounter. When he was just 18, Roy’s father introduced him to the Machar’s Car Club in the South West of Scotland, which was involved in a number of motorsport events. While he was helping to prepare a car at one of these events, one of the Navigators pulled out so he stepped up and navigated.
This was the start of an illustrious rally driving career.
A proud ambassador for rallying and a passionate promoter of the sport to young people, Roy was presented with this award for his relentless dedication to the Junior Championship and his tireless fundraising efforts.

Commenting on the day, Roy said: “Winning this award meant so much to me and what made it even more special was celebrating at Greenan Manor. Sharing the moment in such a warm supportive environment made the achievement more memorable. It was a proud and heartfelt celebration in a place that feels like home. It was a lovely lunch and the craic was great.”
Joe Janikowski, Care Home Manager at Greenan Manor Care Home said: “This was a truly wonderful day, and we were so proud to host such an event in our private dining room. There was a great deal of laughter and a room full of smiles, and we all loved hearing more about Roy’s fascinating career and his passion for the sport.
Our catering team put on a fantastic spread to make sure the event was as special as possible, and I’d like to thank the full team for enhancing this wonderful moment. A huge congratulations to Roy – and to Andy – for these well-deserved awards!”
Alasdair Beck of BeckSport Media added: "The impact that Roy and Andy have had on Scottish rallying, both as individuals and as a team, cannot be overstated. Two men who put just as much back into the sport as they took out for themselves. From a personal standpoint too, they have been champions of what BeckSport have tried to do from the very start, making it a no-brainer in awarding them the BeckSport People's Champion award for 2025"
Situated on Tiree Avenue, with coastal views across Ayr Bay, Greenan Manor offers a selection of high-quality ensuite rooms equipped with modern conveniences. Run by one of Scotland’s most trusted health and social care providers, Meallmore Ltd, it provides excellent standards of care for its residents.
Meallmore currently operates 27 homes across Scotland: 21 for elderly residents, five for adults with mental health needs and one for adults with learning or physical disability. Three new homes are currently in development, including Pitfodels Wood Care Home, which will provide services for elderly people in Aberdeen and is scheduled to open this spring.
