At around 1430 hours on Thursday 20 October 2016, police and emergency services responded to a report of a two car road traffic collision on the B780 Dalry to Kilbirnie road near to its junction with the B784, involving a Black Chevrolet Spark and a Red Vauxhall Corsa.
The 66 year-old woman who was driving the Chevrolet and her passenger, a 32 year-old man, were both taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance where they were found to have sustained minor injuries.
The 28 year-old woman who was driving the Corsa and two children who were passengers, an 8 year-old girl and a 4 year-old boy were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
The 28 year-old woman is described by medical staff as stable. The two children are described as being in a serious condition following the incident.
The B780 has been closed to allow for police enquiries and local diversions remain in place.
Sergeant Kevin Blackley of the Trunk Roads Policing Unit, Irvine is appealing for any information which may assist in their enquiries in establishing the circumstances of the crash.
