Harry Darbyshire P7 from Barr Primary, Lawson McVie & Mhairi McLean from S2 at Prestwick Academy and Nicole Blair from Ayrshire College are the winners of this year's South Ayrshire School Christmas Banner Competition.
The Council competition sponsored by Owen Kerr Signs is always hotly contested as the winners see their designs turned into banners which are then arrayed all over Ayr.
Harry, Lawson, Mhari and Nicole popped along to Owen Kerr's premises to see the finished banners which are now taking pride of place in the town during the run up to Christmas.
Harry Darbyshire said:"I wanted to create a bright colourful sign that made me think of Christmas. I wanted to add a winter sky to my painting using blues and purples. When I was told I had won the competition I was quite shocked, I couldn't believe it and then I was very very happy!"
Lawson McVie & Mhairi McLean turned to Mexico for inspiration: "Our class were working on a Mexican themed project and we were to draw a cactus. We then heard about the Christmas Banner competition so adapted our cactus themed images into Christmas baubles. We were very surprised and very happy to find out that our design was chosen as the winner"
Nicole Blair said: "I wanted to create an image with snowmen. I used Photoshop to produce my image and when I heard mine had been selected as the winner from the college entries I was very proud"
Councillor Bill Grant said: "The winning designs are not only festive but they are vibrant and really capture the spirit of Christmas. The banners stand out and are sure to make shoppers smile. Well done to the winners for their marvellous designs and to everyone who took part in the competition"
Owen Kerr said: "We are delighted once again to sponsor the Christmas Banner Competition. 2016 has seen a record number of entries. As usual, it has been a pleasure to see the creativity from the children and students; deciding on the winning designs was a challenge, as all entries were excellent"
Look out for these colourful banners on Ayr High Street. There are lots of activities taking place across South Ayrshire during Christmas and the New Year, Christmas shopping, pantomimes, shows and entertainment.
