Coastguard team called out to injured horse on Irvine beach

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out shortly before 3pm today to reports of an injured horse on the beach at Irvine.

The team responded immediately to Irvine and as the team arrived on scene, the injured horse had been walked off the beach and was being put into a horse box parked at the Irvine Beach Park.


The team liaised with persons on scene to ensure that all persons were safe and well, including providing an initial assessment and immediate casualty care and of the rider who had fallen from the horse, but was thankfully uninjured.


With the horse and all persons off the beach and a vet on scene, the team has thereafter stood down and returned to station to complete the necessary paperwork before booking off duty to return to their usual Sunday afternoon activities.


The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to those in need.


The team said: "We continue to advise the public to always contact the Coastguard for any incident which is taking place on the beach or out at sea."
