Community groups celebrate funding success in Maybole and North Carrick Villages

13 community groups from Maybole and North Carrick Villages are over the moon after securing new funding to support their work. 202 people turned out to take part in the latest decision day on Saturday 23rd March.

The Maybole and North Carrick villages' locality planning group event encourages people to get actively involved in local decision making.

Known as Maybole and North Carrick Villages Decides, this latest 'marketplace event' saw groups present their ideas to local people, who then voted to award funding.

Up to £12,000 was available, with groups funded up to £1,000. Voting was open to anyone who lives, works, volunteers or studies in Maybole, Fisherton, Dunure, Maidens, Kirkoswald, Turnberry, Minishant, Kirkmichael, Crosshill & Straiton aged 10+.

Among the successful groups was RecoveryAyr's Maybole Recovery Group who provides a range of weekly activities and support to individuals in recovery, their families and friends. Crossroads will use their funding of £1,000 to help provide a package of respite support to carers who are providing 24/7 care for a relative or friend at home.

Carrick Seniors Lunch Club will use their funding to assist with the roll out of their Dementia Friendly Communities project within Maybole and North Carrick Villages while Carrick Community Leisure Group is looking ahead and using their £1,000 to help organise their Children's Christmas Gift Aid project.

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Douglas Campbell, said this latest event was helping to get valuable projects off the ground, "Bringing people together to support each other and their community is what these events are all about.

"Through these events, we are helping local volunteers establish networks where they can join with others to develop more initiatives which could benefit residents even further.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the locality planning group for organising the event and for everyone who turned out to support the latest decision day for Maybole and North Carrick."

The money was provided by South Ayrshire Council, South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership and South Ayrshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership.
