Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council said:
“I welcome the announcement of Tuesday 11 August by Deputy First Minister John Swinney to address the concerns of our young people and to reinstate the original estimated grades for National 5s, Highers and Advanced Highers, which had been downgraded by the methodology used by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. This is a good move and will allow plans to be made and careers to be progressed.
Linda McAulay-Griffiths, Head of Education added: “From the outset, we had confidence in the professional judgements of our teachers on behalf of the young people of East Ayrshire. The estimates produced were subject to a robust and consistent 6-stage approach, taking into consideration SQA guidance at all times. “This has been a difficult and particularly challenging year for our young people in the Senior Phase (S4, S5, S6) and for their teachers, parents and carers. I am incredibly proud of our students. They have shown great maturity, resilience and commitment to their learning and have now been rewarded with the results they deserve. We will now move on to support them all to ensure they are able to take the next steps they had planned.”
