Glasgow Prestwick Airport welcomes three pupils for an airport tour after Space Week competition win

During World Space Week in October 2016, Glasgow Prestwick Airport ran a competition to give primary seven pupils in South Ayrshire the opportunity to have a full behind-the-scenes tour of the airport.

To enter, pupils were asked to draw an A3 sized picture of what they imagined Glasgow Prestwick Spaceport could look like, or to draw what type of aircraft they thought would be taking off into space. Pupils were permitted to use any art materials they wished to complete this project.Spaceweek competition winners The airport was impressed with all 40+ entries. But it was pupils from St Patrick’s Primary School in Troon and Tarbolton Primary School whose entries were out of this world. We welcomed our winners, along with their parents, yesterday, 09 March, for their much deserved tour of the airport. Everyone at Glasgow Prestwick Airport would like to extend their congratulations to Taylor McGill from Tarbolton Primary school, and Brandon McWhirter and Caleb Baird both from St Patrick’s Primary School. Nicola Clark, Glasgow Prestwick’s Communications and Marketing Assistant said: “Running this competition was an excellent opportunity to give the pupils the chance to show off their creative skills, but also learn more about Glasgow Prestwick Spaceport. “The standard of entries was high, but it was Taylor, Caleb and Brandon’s projects that stood out. “The pupils had a great time on the tour and were able to visit areas such as Air Traffic Control, Airport Fire Service, Passenger Handling, Security, plus they were given the opportunity to be driven around the airfield and down the runway.”

Each pupil left Glasgow Prestwick Airport with a goodie bag and the knowledge that they had boldly gone where their classmates had not gone before.
