The quality of education and care at a South Ayrshire Primary School and Nursery has received a glowing report following a national inspection.
High standards in teaching, good engagement with children, and strong leadership were all singled out for praise at Kirkmichael Primary School and Nursery in the latest Education Scotland Report.
The report also found that the Head teacher's leadership was 'very effective', with a targeted approach put in place which has inspired staff and children alike, while fostering a positive school ethos. Given the forward looking nature of the way the school is operating Inspectors made no recommendations to improve the way the school was run.
The Inspectors came to their conclusions after a recent visit to the school and nursery which included discussions with parents, children and staff. The inspection was part of a pilot programme which gives schools two days' notice that the process is about to begin, instead of the usual two-weeks.
Among the areas found to be doing well included:
Children in nursery are developing investigation skills by playing outdoors
Children at primary stage are eager to learn and confident about sharing ideas
Children are actively involved at school and proud of their achievements
Children at all levels are making good progress with literacy and numeracy
Staff have linked with other schools to successfully develop the school curriculum
Staff relationships with children are positive
Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio holder for Lifelong Learning, said, "We're committed to delivering positive opportunities for children at all of our schools, something that this report underlines.
"I'm proud of all the hard work that's gone into delivering first-class education to the children at Kirkmichael and would like to congratulate them for this glowing report."
Karen Butchart, Head Teacher at Kirkmichael Primary School said success wasn't something they took for granted, "It's fantastic to have our hard work recognised but we want to continue to build on our momentum, as there's always room to improve.
"It's satisfying to have created an environment where both our staff and pupils are engaged in the curriculum, which is something we have worked tirelessly to achieve."
