Letter found at River Ayr sparks full scale search and rescue emergency


Emergency Services including Coastguard Rescue 999 Helicopter, was called out shortly after 9pm yesterday to attend a developing incident at the River Ayr.

The teams responded immediately and proceeded south with Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team, Troon Lifeboat and Coastguard helicopter Rescue 999 also being tasked to the incident.

The alarm was raised following a note being found which intimated a person intended to enter the water.

As the coastguard team arrived on scene, an update was received that officers from Police Scotland had located the person in question and confirmed they were safe and well and no persons were in the water.

Emergency Services thereafter stood down and were released from the incident and the coastguard team returned to the station to complete the necessary paperwork and repack the rescue equipment which had been prepared for deployment.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is made up entirely of specially trained and equipped volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to those in need.
