Communities in parts of Ayr, Prestwick and in Mossblown are being given the chance to find out more about the new recycling service being introduced later this year at a series of roadshows. From November, two new bins will be used to collect 'Paper, Card and Cardboard', and 'Glass Bottles and Jars', with blue bins changing to 'Metals, Plastics and Cartons'.
Working with Zero Waste Scotland, the Council is introducing an enhanced collection schedule between October 2018 and April 2019. Phase 2 of the campaign will see the service introduced to around 12,000 properties in Mossblown, and parts of Ayr and Prestwick. Letters detailing the changes are being sent to all these properties, with the new bins being delivered during October and November. Councillor Ian Cochrane, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sustainability & Environment said the campaign presents a real opportunity, "The new recycling service will be rolled out across South Ayrshire in the next eight months to improve the way we work while helping us to increase the amount of material we recycle. "The recent roadshows in Girvan and South Carrick attracted a wide-range of people, with common concerns focused around space for the new bins. Our research shows that most people will be able to accommodate the new system and people at our events left with reassurance about the relatively small space the smaller new bins take up. "We'll be contacting every household when the service is about to go live in their area but in the meantime I'd urge people in the relevant parts of Ayr, Mossblown and Prestwick to come along to their local roadshows to find out more." The roadshows for Ayr, Mossblown and Prestwick are scheduled to be held in September: Prestwick Community Centre, Mon 17 (6-8pm) Kincaidston Primary School, Tues 18 (6-8pm) Alloway Village Hall, Wed 19 (10am-12noon) Ayr Town Hall, Wed 26 (6-8pm) Mossblown Activity Centre, Thurs 27 (6-8pm) Meanwhile, Phase 1 householders in Girvan and South Carrick have been sent a detailed service guide about how to use the new system alongside a new calendar. Deliveries of the new bins are now underway, with the service due to go live in the first week of October.
