Open season as crazy golf gets new lease of life at Troon beach

Hot on the heels of The Open, hundreds of people are expected to descend on a revamped attraction in Troon.

A new five-year lease has been signed to run the 18 hole Crazy Golf course on South Beach Esplanade.

The well-known fixture has been spruced-up, with a fresh coat of paint adding colour to the classic design of the old course. Crazy golf became popular in the 1920s and has been a firm favourite across South Ayrshire ever since.

The new lease holder, Julie Barr, will run the Troon course until 2021, with a range of improvements helping to add new sparkle to an old gem.

Bill Grant, South Ayrshire Council's, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder, said it was good to see the course back in use, "Generations of families have enjoyed a round at this wee gem and it's great to see it back open to the public.

"With a little TLC fresh life has been breathed into the course, which offers a ferry and a mountain as some of the more unusual hazards for people to play through.

"I'd like to wish Julie Barr the best of luck for the summer season and would urge everyone that hasn't been down to the beach to go and check out the new-look course."

Julie Barr said, "The seaside just wouldn't be the same without crazy golf and it's been great to get the course back up and running.

"With a fresh coat of paint and a new ticket office the crazy golf is back looking its best and we're hoping to see plenty of people coming down to try it out."
