Council proposing to temporarily ban vehicles at Ayr Esplanade
Temporary measures could include removing parking to create extra footway space, introducing speed restrictions, providing a segregated cycle lane, enforcing existing parking restrictions, providing physical distancing information or providing additional cycle parking.
The council stated :
The Esplanade in Ayr is already a popular destination. During the Covid-19 lockdown there has been a significant increase in people walking and cycling there. The Esplanade provides on-street car parking next to the beach which on good weather days is very busy. The temporary closure of the Esplanade to vehicles would provide a significant increase in available space for people to walk and cycle while safely maintaining physical distancing.
