The Red Arrows have been confirmed for the Scottish International Airshow this year.
Event Organisers confirmed the news on their Facebook page, they said: "This is always an exciting time of the year. In September (last year) we applied for our main RAF aircraft and now we have had confirmation of some fantastic flying for #ScotAir17For 3 years we have tried to get the RAF Lancaster to the Scottish International Airshow.
"In 2014 the weather meant our star appearance of the world’s only 2 Lancasters did not happen at the Ayr Low Green. In 2015 she had an engine fire and was grounded for most of the air display season. In 2016 she had a technical problem when starting and never made it to our great display. The RAF just love the support you give the Scottish International Airshow and have allocated us the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for Saturday 2nd September.
"That means you can hear the wonderful roar of the 4 Merlin engines of the Lancaster as well as those of the Spitfire and Hurricane.Recognising that she has not yet managed to display with us the Lancaster will stay at Prestwick overnight and fly a 2nd display on Sunday 3rd September!! 2 appearances by this historic aircraft are going to be wonderful for us all to see and hear.
"Look out Ayr seagulls - the Typhoon is coming back. Last year the Typhoon was credited with chasing the seagulls away for Ayr town centre for 2 days. While the Typhoon was doing her roaring display Ayr’s seagulls packed up and went inland for a couple of days. The awesome Typhoon will fly on both days of #ScotAir17 on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September.
"In 2016 we welcomed the RAF Falcons parachute team for the very first time. They did a great show dropping down on to Ayr beach and we are very excited to have them back for both Saturday and Sunday. Their precision flying of the parachutes is a real treat to watch. The Tutor is the RAF’s basic trainer and we welcome the chance to see it put through its aerobatic paces on both Saturday and Sunday. It’s a lovely aeroplane and all of today’s RAF pilots start their training on the Tutor.
"They then go through advanced training and on to one of the front line types. It will be great to see the Tutor at #ScotAir17Without doubt one of the biggest draws on the worldwide Airshow circuit are the Red Arrows. They are in huge demand across the world and are not long back from several months long touring of the Far East. Having had a little time off the lads have been practicing their 2017 routines and we are truly delighted to announce the RAF Red Arrows will be the highlight of #ScotAir17 on Sunday 3rd September.
"We know the Reds and their whole team love coming to Ayr and the tens of thousands who turn out to watch them are sure to be thrilled by their 2017 display routine. The Scottish International Airshow is free to attend on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September because of the great support we get from out sponsors and partners South Ayrshire Council, EventScotland, Spirit Aerosystems, Launch Digital, Heineken and UTC Aerosystems. They have given us the ability to bring world class aerobatic teams to Scotland. Our great partners at Glasgow Prestwick Airport will be hosting the aircraft over the weekend and their skilled ATC team will help us put on a wonderful show at #ScotAir17"
