STV has been awarded the licence to deliver local TV services to Ayr, which will see the broadcaster delivering the new service in partnership with University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

Working in collaboration with UWS at its Ayr Campus will provide creative industries students with the opportunity to learn and train in a live TV environment.
STV’s licence for Ayr will deliver local news and current affairs content according to TV channel bosses.
Bobby Hain, Director of Channels at STV, said: “STV is committed to delivering local content for viewers in Scotland and the award today will serve to complement our existing STV family of broadcast, online and mobile services. Local TV is a long term commitment for STV and we look forward to working with UWS in Ayr to deliver this new service.”
Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal & Vice-Chancellor of UWS, said: “UWS would like to congratulate STV on their successful bid for the Ayr broadcast licence. The University welcomes what is sure to be a strong and productive working partnership to deliver news and programming for the local community. It is a wonderful opportunity to have a broadcast hub on our campus, providing our students with a creative outlet, allowing them to hone their practical skills in a real broadcast environment whilst affording them with genuine networking opportunities. I am proud to say that UWS is the only educational partner in Scotland to have this collaboration on campus.” Professor Nick Higgins, Director of the UWS Creative Media Academy, commented: “We are delighted with Ofcom's decision to award the licence to STV AYR Ltd. This decision by Ofcom is fantastic news for both STV and UWS. Our partnership with STV will provide a unique and exciting opportunity for the University; one that has the potential to bring great benefits for UWS students and graduates. “As the STV local broadcast team will be based at the UWS Creative Media Academy on our Ayr campus we are looking forward to being closely involved in the creation of local television. With opportunities for professional training, internships and increased employability, this is an exciting time for students at the Creative Media Academy and we are delighted to be undertaking such an exciting new venture with our broadcast colleagues at STV. “The University is committed to enhancing its contribution to its local communities and the creation of a local TV station on our £81m Ayr Campus will bring valuable opportunities to promote Ayrshire and to widen the range of broadcast coverage for the region. We are thrilled to be part of this ground-breaking initiative.” STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh broadcast on Freeview channel 23, Sky channel 117 and Virgin Media channel 159 within their transmission areas.
