Talented Kyle lands trip to NASA Space Centre

An East Ayrshire pupil has secured a much-coveted place on a trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, with the University of Strathclyde Scottish Space School. 

And Kyle Anderson, in sixth year at Loudoun Academy, is over the moon after winning through against stiff competition from all over Scotland. A total of ten Scottish pupils will be given a rare opportunity to meet with many of the astronauts, engineers and scientists working on the space programme. They were selected from 100 talented pupils from all over Scotland who attended the Scottish Space School at Strathclyde University in June this year, following a rigorous selection process over the summer. The Scottish Space School is a five-day residential programme, coordinated by the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and supported by the University’s Faculty of Engineering at Strathclyde. Space School gives pupils a unique insight into career and educational opportunities available through studying science, engineering and technology. During Space School week pupils were lucky enough to meet guests from NASA, including astronauts, engineers and rocket scientists. Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning, said: “The Space School programme is a great way of educating young people about future career possibilities in areas they might not have previously considered. “It provides a wonderful opportunity for one of our pupils to experience the trip of a lifetime. Congratulations to Kyle and I hope he thoroughly enjoys this experience.”
