Thief takes car while owner was defrosting the car in Kilmarnock

Officers in East Ayrshire are warning vehicle owners to be vigilant following the theft of a car on Monday 18th November 2019 in the Onthank area of Kilmarnock.

East Ayrshire Safer Communities Officer PC Marshall said: “This time of year and the frosty weather gives rise to this type of opportunistic theft. “Vehicle owners are asked to take time to defrost their vehicle but stay with it whilst the engine is running. By leaving your vehicle unattended you are giving thieves an opportunity. “Please follow the reminder below or for more information visit the ‘Keep Safe’ pages of our website.” Please remember: - Double check you've definitely locked your car. - If you have a car alarm, then make sure it’s set. - Never leave your car unlocked or unattended (especially during any cold spell when you might need to de-frost your car in the morning.) - Don’t leave ANY valuables in cars. - Always lock all house doors and windows - keep your car keys out of sight and in a safe place. Don't leave them lying next to a door or window.
