Travel - A70 Glenbuck road closure update

The A70 will be closed from Monday 17 June until Sunday 30 June, from east of Muirkirk to the boundary with South Lanarkshire, to allow for the completion of the extensive A70 Glenbuck Road Realignment project.

The final part of the project will tie the new section of road to the existing road and the road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the travelling public and the workforce. It will also ensure that this final part of the project is completed as quickly as possible. The diversion route, which will be signed, will be via the B743 to Strathaven, A71 to roundabout east of Stonehouse then B7078 south via Blackwood and Lesmahagow to the roundabout junction with the A70 and re-join A70 route. Traffic from the east will be diverted along the same route in reverse.

While the road closure and diversions are in place for the completion of the A70 Glenbuck Road Realignment project, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance will also resurface over 2km of road east of Muirkirk. The Alliance will work closely with the local community to ensure access where possible throughout the works. Should you have any concerns regarding the works or the diversion please contact either the Ayrshire Roads Alliance on 01563 503160 or RJ McLeod (contractors) on 07881 813656.
