Councillor Jim Buchanan passed away earlier today, following a short illness.

A statement on EAC's website said:
Councillor Buchanan was first elected to the Council in 2007 and served as an elected member for Ward 4 (Kilmarnock East and Hurlford).
He cared deeply about his local community and as the Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, he was committed to improving and sustaining communities across East Ayrshire, through community regeneration and economic growth.
Councillor Buchanan always took time to recognise the achievements of our communities and he could not have been more proud of Kilmarnock being awarded the title of Scotland’s Most Improved Town in December 2015.
Councillor Buchanan was enormously respected by his fellow elected members and council officers, as well as local businesses and community organisations.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad and difficult time.
