Two of the best as South Ayrshire apprentices selected for national final

Two high flying apprentices from South Ayrshire Council have been shortlisted for the final of a national award. The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Scotland Building and Housing Apprentice of the Year 2017 awards celebrate the hard work and exceptional accomplishments of apprentices in the housing and building sector.
APSE is a not for profit organisation working with over 250 local authorities throughout the UK. Their Apprentice of the Year awards recognise the achievements of Scotland's apprentices and their aptitude and commitment to learning a range of skills in the housing and building sector.
Two of South Ayrshire Council’s apprentice plumbers, Craig Barrett and Darryl McClure have been selected for the 1st and 3rd year categories of this year’s awards, after demonstrating consistently high standards in their approach to their day-to-day roles.
Councillor Robin Reid, South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources and Performance, said the recognition was well deserved, “To have two of our apprentices recognised for this prestigious award is a fantastic achievement, of which both the candidates should be rightly proud.
“We’re committed to investing in our young people by offering apprenticeships which give them the opportunity to learn practical skills, while undertaking courses at college.
“For Craig and Darryl to have been chosen from competition across the country highlights their commitment to providing excellent customer service and a dedication to build on their skills on an ongoing basis. I wish them both the best of luck at the finals later this year.”
The winners will be announced at APSE’s annual Scottish Building, Housing & Renewables Seminar in Dunblane, on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 February 2017.
