Today is Victory in Europe Day!
The date refers to the victory of the Allies of WW2 in 1945.

On 7th May 1945, the formal act of military surrender was signed by Germany, bringing an end to almost six years of war in Europe. More than one million people celebrated in the streets throughout Great Britain to mark the momentous occasion.
For many though, the celebrations were bittersweet as they mourned family members they'd lost, and worried about others who were still in combat as the war continued in the Far East.
