Yellow warning for rain issued across Ayrshire tonight!

Heavy rain will spread across southwest Scotland and the Hebrides on Tuesday evening, and then affect other western and central areas overnight and into Wednesday morning.

Some intense downpours, perhaps thundery, will lead to localised flooding of roads. Some travel disruption should be expected through into the morning commute. The rain will clear away eastwards during Wednesday morning. Chief Forecaster's assessment

Outbreaks of rain will develop during Tuesday afternoon and evening, lasting overnight and into Wednesday morning. Some of the rain will become heavy and perhaps thundery with locally torrential downpours possible.

15 to 25 mm of rain may fall locally in an hour with as much of 30 to 50 mm falling by morning. Isolated totals of 70 mm of rain could fall across higher ground within the warning area. Issued at: 11:01 on Tuesday, 22 August 2017
