86 year old man dies after serious RTC between Mossblown & Whitletts

Police are appealing for information following a road crash in Ayrshire on Saturday 16 December 2017.

Around 1725 hours on Saturday 16 December 2017, a westbound black BMW 116 series and a silver Mercedes A150 car travelling east collided on the B743 near to the Auchencruive Agricultural College between Whitletts roundabout, Ayr, and Mossblown.

The 86 year old male driver of the Mercedes and his 85 year old female front seat passenger were taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital with serious injuries. The 86 year old man has subsequently died within Ayr Hospital today, Thursday 21 December. A report will be submitted to Procurator Fiscal.

The 85 year old woman was released after treatment at the hospital as were the 30 year old male driver of the BMW and the two children, a 5 year old girl and a boy aged 7 years, with him in the car at the time of the crash.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley, Divisional Road Policing Unit, Ayr, is appealing for witnesses. He said:

“Although the road is a country road, it’s only a couple of miles long and is on the outskirts of Ayr and near to the village of Mossblown. At this time of night, it can be relatively busy and indeed, a number of people did stop to assist following the crash, however, we would appeal to anyone who saw the crash and who has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch.

“If you saw the crash, the vehicles prior to the crash or have any information that will assist officers with their investigation, then please contact Irvine Road Policing Department on 101 quoting incident number 3012 of 16/12/17."
