A taste of suite success for Loudoun Academy
Pupils at Loudoun Academy are set to benefit from a real-life learning café on the school premises – helping prepare them for the world of work in the hospitality industry.
The Loudoun Academy Hospitality Suite is a collaboration between East Ayrshire Council, Ayrshire College, Loudoun Academy and Buzzworks Holdings to help young people learn skills needed in the workplace by prospective employers.
Pupils can learn how to become brilliant baristas, how to prepare and then serve food – all while earning qualifications while they perfect their trade.
Councillor Stephanie Primrose, East Ayrshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning said: “We’re fully committed to the best possible educational experience for all pupils with the curriculum geared to academic and practical skills.
“Loudoun Academy has an excellent tradition of running courses linked to the hospitality industry and offers a wide range of learning opportunities suited to further learning, work and life beyond school.
“We’re delighted with the support offered by Buzzworks Holdings and the additional offer of work experience for the young people in training.
“This practical, hands-on learning directly complements the innovative approach taken by the school and Ayrshire College, to offer a NC qualification in Professional Cookery.
“It’s a superb initiative and, in terms of offering a live learning environment, coupled with relevant, modern qualifications, it really is food for thought.”
Pupils have also been holding fundraising coffee mornings and are developing links with Alzheimer’s Scotland to develop a dementia friendly café resource that will shortly be made available to members of the local community.
