CLUB TOO FAR - CLUB DE MAR IS ON THE MARKET - BUT WHY?

THE country's longest running nightclub Club De Mar, located in Ayr, see's the end of an era as we can reveal the club is now on the market open to offers.

According to club bosses, it's all down to the town's trade, the club will still be trading until it finds a new tenant to take on the club which consists of a huge dance floor and the brand new £70,000 VIP room 'Bar Cello' which used to be the very successful 'Room Red' - Bar Cello was created only months ago and is set out to provide a VIP service to people who pay for a special package for friends to enjoy bottles of wine etc.

While other Ayr nightclubs continue to grow - for example, Furys in Nile Court...who are booming at the moment and saw Mini Me Verne Troyer visiting them during the Gold Cup weekend at Ayr Races.

Difficult trading conditions and a club that was just too big for today's changing clubbing society are just some of the critical factors according to clubbers that told the Ayrshire Daily News.

It's sad that the correct changes were not made a while ago - there is no doubt Ayrshire clubbers loved Club De Mar.

Debbie Carins, Boss, Owner of the Club said she could remember the time when Ayr had 6 nightclubs and around 5,000 people where in the town every weekend, but those times have changed said Debbie.

Club De Mar was famous for big acts coming to Ayr back in the day such as the Bay City Rollers, The Drifters, Top DJ's such as Radio DJ's from BBC Radio 1- but that all calmed down.

On behalf of the public and clubbers, we would like to thank Club De Mar and Paul Spence who is the Manager of the Club, for 25 fantastic years of music and entertainment - including Take That, The Glitterband, Hot Chocolate and the village people, Showaddywaddy and lots more which you can view on our follow up story!
