Council support local families by freezing cost of school meals

We have good news for parents and carers of children attending South Ayrshire schools.

There will be no annual increase to the price of our school meals for the remainder of the 2020/21 session.

This means that the cost of school lunches will remain at the current rate of £2.15 in Primary Schools and £2.25 in Secondary Schools.

Councillor Ian Cochrane, South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment said:

“Our Catering Services provide vital and nutritious meals for pupils in South Ayrshire and it’s great news that school meal prices will remain the same, given the current climate.

“I’m sure parents and carers will welcome this decision, particularly as many families face financial pressures due to the economic impact of COVID-19.”

Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People said: “2020 has been an extremely difficult year for many young people and their families.

“We want children to thrive in our schools, and nutritious school lunches help to support their health, wellbeing and ability to learn.

“The decision to freeze the cost of school meals really will help to make a difference to families across South Ayrshire.”
