Crosshouse Hospital set for an upgrade to it's main entrance

From Monday 6 February, works will be starting at the main entrance of University Hospital Crosshouse (UHC) to improve the drop-off area for patients and visitors, as well as access for patient transport vehicles.

Currently, the drop-off point at UHC is not always used appropriately and often causes vehicle congestion. The alterations to the main entrance will make better use of the space available and create a new drop-off point in front of the main entrance. The work will also upgrade the existing area where Scottish Ambulance Service vehicles park. The work will take eight weeks and will start on Monday 6 February 2017.

During the works there will be no vehicle access to the current drop-off area. A temporary drop-off point will be created to the East side of the hospital, in the car park adjacent to the physiotherapy department. Entry to the hospital will then be through a side door in this area.

The temporary drop-off point will have a maximum waiting time of ten minutes and have a separate area for emergency vehicles and patient transport vehicles. Pedestrian access to the main entrance will be maintained and the bus stops will be unaffected.

During the works, signs will direct traffic to the temporary drop-off point. Visitors to the site have a duty to adhere to the traffic management plan and to park appropriately and not cause an obstruction.

When the works are complete the new drop-off point will have six drop-off spaces - three of which will be wheelchair accessible. Parking in this area will be limited to ten minutes, after which cars should be parked in the main car park. The work will also create walkways to ensure that pedestrians and vehicles are separated.

John Wright, Director for Corporate Support Services, commented: “The UHC site will be very busy with construction traffic throughout February and March as there will be a number of improvement works underway. We have asked contractors to keep disruption to a minimum. However, we apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and ask our visitors to be patient during this time.”
