Dumfries House set to toast national tradition with Scottish supper and ceilidh

A celebration of Scottish music, dance and food will take place at Dumfries House during the month of St Andrew's Day.

Guests of a ceilidh on Saturday 2 November will be served traditional fare as part of an event compered by renowned host Robert Lovie. Music will be provided by the Glasgow-based contemporary ceilidh band Jim Jam and a two-course Scottish supper will provide fuel for a spirited evening.

As ceilidh caller, Robert, a veteran commentator of major Highland Games events and host of ceilidhs throughout Scotland, will offer instruction and encouragement throughout the evening to dancers well-versed in routines as well as those less familiar with ceilidh choreography.

He said: “It seems fitting that, as one of Scotland’s most beautiful country houses, Dumfries House will provide the setting for such a traditional cultural event unique to this country. A ceilidh is essentially a social gathering with entertainment, food, music and dancing, and we hope that people in East Ayrshire will relish the opportunity to celebrate our finest traditions during the month of St Andrew’s Day.”

Such events form a key element of the vision of His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, who saved Dumfries House for the nation and ensured it is used to inspire the local community and to help people engage in learning experiences that promote confidence and personal development as well as training in real-life skills to open up future employment opportunities. The Prince’s Foundation is behind community activities such as festive family events and Doukin’ In The Dark, which takes place at the outdoor pool refurbished by the charity in nearby New Cumnock.

The ceilidh event will start at 7.15pm on Saturday 2 November, with doors open from 7pm. Tickets for the ceilidh and meal cost £32.50 per person and are available from Tania Bechelli on 01290 429 913. Overnight accommodation is available on the estate at the exclusive five-star Dumfries House Lodge at £140 for a double room with bed and breakfast.
