Eager race-goers come out - Ayr's Scottish Grand National is a success

NOTHING stopped 17,000 eager race-goers as the rain tried to huddle it's way in on Scotland big Grand National at Ayr Racecourse.

A great day was had by all at Ayr Racecourse, as VICENTE wins the Scottish Grand National.

Nothing stopped the punters betting on the horses at the Racecourse when rain started approaching alongside sleet - but overall it was a lovely sunny day.

In the straight it looked like Seeyouatmidnight was going to strike for Scottish Sandy Thomson, but look again as Vicente was in the lead with a perfectly timed run in the race.

Alvarado finished to claim second place in the race, just two and three-quarter lengths behind winner Vicente

Vicente's jockey Paul Nicholls said: "That was a result. Brilliant ride, just what we needed. It was perfect"

We caught up with a few of the punters who said: "It's been a great day, 17,000 people bought tickets and by the looks of things, they're all here today.

"I can't wait to see if i win anything today, let's hope for the best."

The Horse that lost his life at 16:10 - at the Grand National was Golden Chieftain.

He was 11 years old and won the Cheltenham Festival, Southern National and the Somerset National, unfortunately he was injured and could not be saved.

Ayrshire Daily News loved covering the two day event at Ayr Racecourse.
