INSIGHT into success as Council welcomes improved exam results

School exam performances in East Ayrshire have again shown levels of improvement, with INSIGHT – the national bench-marking database indicating increased levels of attainment.

Insight was designed to help bring about improvements for learners in the senior phase (S4 to S6).

It was developed by the Scottish Government in partnership with Education Scotland, Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), Association of Directors of Education Scotland (ADES), Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and School Leaders Scotland (SLS).

In East Ayrshire, performance in Literacy and Numeracy in S4 has improved with the percentage of young people achieving Literacy and Numeracy at SCQF Level 5 increasing from 76.50% in 2015 to 81.14% in 2016.

Similarly, in S5 the percentage of young people who achieved SCQF Level 6 was 24.03% and in line with National performance.

The new Advanced Higher qualification was successfully introduced in session 2015-16 and results show a greater percentage of young people achieving one or more qualifications at this level (18%) than the previous year (14%).

Alan Ward, East Ayrshire Council’s Head of Education said: “It is very encouraging that our young people are performing so well. I am delighted that the hard work of our young people, supported by their teachers and other school staff, has resulted in success.

“The positive examination results achieved by young people in East Ayrshire provide a platform to build on.

“The use of INSIGHT allows schools to measure their progress and identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. Work is already underway to achieve further success in 2017.”
