Large scale search and rescue exercise planned for tomorrow

LARGE SCALE EXERCISE - NORTH AYRSHIRE - SUNDAY 22 JULY 2018

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is advising the public of a large scale search and rescue (SAR) exercise scheduled to take place in North Ayrshire tomorrow.

The exercise will take commence at 0900 hours and expected to end mid-afternoon. The training exercise will be taking place at a currently undisclosed location in North Ayrshire to ensure the scenario remains as realistic as possible for those taking part and will involve multiple search and rescue assets including Coastguard Rescue Teams and lifeboats.

There is a high likelihood of the public seeing an increased presence of the emergency services and also the likelihood of seeing exercises 'players' acting as casualties.

These exercise scenarios provide essential multi-agency training to prepare search and rescue personnel for the day we hope never comes.

A significant amount of planning and preparation goes into an exercise of this scale and they ensure that if a real emergency happens, all participants are well prepared for the challenges which a major incidents can bring.

People in the area will see in increase in emergency service activity and we do not want people to be alarmed.

All search and rescue assets remain fully operationally deployable with the exercise being halted or cancelled should a live time incident occur which requires an emergency response.

Search and Rescue - it's what we do.
