Lift, bake and Save Lives at Sea for Girvan RNLI!

This May your local RNLI crew are asking for your support. Whether you feel like mustering the energy to lift a lifeboat with your gym partner or fancy a more laid back day of baking there’s plenty you can do to help.

Up and down the country various landmarks are turning yellow in support of the RNLI'S 2019 Mayday campaig, nast night the SSE Hydro in Glasgow went yellow for Mayday!

Some of Girvans volunteer lifeboat crew were on hand in Glasgow at the SSE Hydro for the big switch on.

This May your local RNLI crew are asking for your support. Whether you feel like mustering the energy to lift a lifeboat with your gym partner or fancy a more laid back day of baking there’s plenty you can do to help.

The lifesaving charity, who are supported entirely by public donations, are asking people to organise a fundraising event, any time in May, to help fund the iconic yellow kit worn by lifeboat crew volunteers.

Girvan Lifeboat Operations Manager John Gourlay said: “During the month of May we’re asking people in our community and across the country to do their bit to help fund our volunteer crews’ lifesaving kit. The RNLI is entirely funded by the generosity of the public, we wouldn’t exist without them and ‘MayDay’ gives people a chance to get creative and have a bit of fun all whilst helping to save lives! For example a bake sale that raises £55 would buy a pair of our protective, steel toed, wellies for a crew member, those boots could take part in hundreds of shouts and play their part in saving lives at seas. If people want to get involved they can find lots of details on the RNLI Mayday website.

“Last year we had a great success for Mayday, our local community helped raise vital funds with people baking, running and wearing yellow to work. This year we would like to do even better and show our crews how much we support them!”

As well as organising your own fundraisers you can get involved with events being run by local fundraising branches up and down the country to help fund your local crew’s kit and have some fun to (yellow welly) boot!
