Muirkirk Primary, Early Childhood Centre and Community Facility officially opened

Excited children and staff at Muirkirk Primary School, Early Childhood Centre and Community Facility enjoyed the official opening of their impressive new building by Jeane Freeman MSP this week.

The children were at the heart of the opening ceremony, with the Primary 1 to 7 pupils singing and reciting a poem about their new building, while children from the Early Childhood Centre danced and sang ‘Hot Potato’ and ‘Dorothy the Dinosaur’ for the guests. The construction work on the single storey building took just over a year to complete and the children and staff have now settled in well to their new surroundings complete with community garden and outdoor play area. The school and community have been very involved throughout the lifespan of the project. Local people were employed on the construction works while the school children were asked to design parts of the Early Childhood Centre’s external play area. Jeane Freeman MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley said: “It was an honour to open this fantastic building which the pupils are so clearly excited about. “This is a great space not only for the pupils to learn in, but for the whole community to enjoy and I have no doubt it will go from strength to strength.” Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council, said: “This is an incredible building which is not only providing a state of the art learning environment for our pupils in Muirkirk, but is also somewhere that the community can use due to the purpose built facilities contained within it. “It has been very satisfying to watch this building, and our other new schools, rise out of the ground over the last few years as part of our ambitious ten year capital investment programme which will see tens of millions of pounds invested in our schools. “It’s an exciting time for the children, staff and community of Muirkirk and I know they’re all delighted to be learning in their new school and Early Childhood Centre.”
