Multi Agency call out to a medical emergency on a boat near Largs

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called diverted from a separate incident around 0950 hours this morning following reports of a medical emergency on board a sailing vessel heading for Largs Marina.

Largs Lifeboat, Largs Coastguard Rescue Team and Rescue Helicopter 199 were also tasked to assist.

The team proceeded to Largs Marina with Largs Lifeboat quickly getting on scene and alongside the casualty vessel and placing a crew member on board to assist, with Rescue Helicopter 199 arriving on scene a short time thereafter.

Rescue 199 lowered their winchman paramedic onto Largs Lifeboat who then conducted a ship-to-ship transfer onto the casualty vessel to provide enhanced medical assistance whilst en route to the marina.

With the winchman now on board the casualty vessel, the team have established and secured a Helicopter Landing Site (HLS) beside Largs Marina with Rescue 199 landing on and shutting down to await further updates.

Team members have then redeployed to assist the casualty vessel and Largs lifeboat coming alongside within the marina, with an amublance also on scene to assist the casualty. The casualty has thereafter been assisted into the awaiting ambulance and into the care of paramedics.

Following a further medical assessment, the decision was made by medical professionals to convey the casualty to hospital by road via ambulance.

With the casualty en route to hospital, the winchman has returned to the helicopter with the team resecuring the Helicopter Landing Site with the aircraft taking off and returning to Prestwick airport a short time thereafter.

All Coastguard resources have then stood down and returned to their respective stations to complete the necessary paperwork and repack equipment before booking off duty shortly after 1230pm.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to those in need at the coast and beyond.
