NHS Ayrshire & Arran Confirm That ICU Capacity Has Been Increased At Crosshouse Hospital
NHS Ayrshire & Arran have confirmed tonight that ICU capacity has been increased at Crosshouse Hospital after FM Nicola Sturgeon announced on Monday that Ayrshire & Arran had reached 96% of it's max Covid-19 ICU Capacity.
Earlier this morning ADN Received several messages saying that other areas of the hospital where set to become "Covid-19 Only" areas to increase the ICU capacity should it go over the 100% capacity, this has since been confirmed in a statement tonight from NHS Ayrshire & Arran however it's not known exactly how much more capacity this will give Crosshouse.
Statement by NHS Dr Crawford McGuffie, Medical Director:
"NHS Ayrshire and Arran has prepared extensively to deal with COVID-19 and
continues to work to ensure we have the right resources, equipment and staffing in
place, including ITU."
"We have experienced an increase in COVID-19 admissions and, in line with other
Health Boards across Scotland, have increased our capacity to support rising
"Both our acute hospitals have COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patient pathways in
place, and infection prevention and control advice is followed to ensure patients are
isolated as appropriate."
"Within the Board, the situation is constantly monitored through daily operational and
governance meetings. There are established links with Health Protection Scotland
and with Scottish Government that are utilised for advice and guidance where
"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new
persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who
develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately.
This advice and following FACTS guidance are very important, as currently emerging
evidence supports greater transmissibility of COVID-19."
F – Face coverings. These should be used in shops and on public transport (buses,
trains and taxis)
A – Avoid crowded places.
C – Clean your hands frequently, using water & soap whenever possible.
T – Two metres – observe physical distancing.
S – Self-isolate and book a test if you are suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
