North Ayr Health Centre celebrates 20th anniversary
North Ayr Health Centre in Whitletts, Ayr, celebrated its 20th anniversary on 31 October.
As the only community clinic in Ayr, it provides an integrated approach to patient care, with access to both GP facilities and community services.
The health centre opened on 31 October 1996 and was used to house a number of services which were previously based at Heathfield House, including District Nursing, Health Visiting teams and School Nurses.
Other community services such as Podiatry, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy soon followed.
Tim Eltringham, Director of South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: “Today, our Nurse Practitioners within North Ayr Health Centre provide a ‘drop-in’ clinic service for the local community.
"As well as nursing services, they provide a varied public health role including chronic disease management, offering advice and, when appropriate, onward referral for more complex health and social problems.
"The Nurse Practitioners carry out approximately 3,500 face-to-face patient consultations every year.”
North Ayr Health Centre also provides:
Community Midwifery services
Community Mental Health services
A heart failure nurse
A memory clinic
The Gatehouse was built as an extension to the health centre in May 2013 and provides Sexual Health and Family Planning services for the population of South Ayrshire.
