Police appealing for information after fatal hit and run on the A76
Police Scotland is appealing for information following a fatal hit and run in Cumnock on Saturday 24 March 2018.
Around 1105pm, a grey Peugeot 307 was travelling northbound on the A76 between New Cumnock and Cumnock when it was involved in a collision with a northbound black Ford Focus and a southbound Vauxhall Antara.
The driver of the Peugeot 307 then fled the scene of the collision.
Emergency services attended and a 68 year-old female passenger from the Vauxhall Antara was pronounced dead at the scene. The 35 year old female driver and 39 year old male passenger sustained minor injuries.
All three occupants of the Ford Focus were treated for minor injuries.
Several motorists stopped to assist.
Extensive enquiries are underway to locate the driver of the Peugeot and a 27 year old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He was later released without charge.
The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators examined and searched the area for any evidence which could provide additional information which could assist the investigations. Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them.
Sergeant Ian Thornton said:
“Extensive enquiries are underway to locate the driver of the Peugeot motor car who fled the scene of the crash. I am appealing for anyone, who was in the area at the time of the collision, or who may have dash cam footage, or who may have seen the Peugeot car being driven prior to the incident occurring to contact us. You may have information which could assist our enquiries as we try to establish the circumstances of this incident which has resulted in a woman’s death.”
