Police close Ayr High Street 'until further notice' due to unsafe building
Ayr High Street has been sealed off by Police due to an un-safe building at the bottom of the town.
The former Savers shop that once joined on to Woolworths has started to break away sparking a huge safety concern.
The building has been empty for many years and was recently saved from demolition. Rubble from the building can be seen on the pathway.
Local buses are being diverted via Miller Road and Fort Street.
This news comes as thousands of people were set to march down the high street for an Independence March. Alternative routes for this are being discussed between organisers.
Event organisers for the March said on Facebook that they are aware of the closure of Ayr High Street and regardless, the Rally and March will still take place.
Police Scotland issued the following statement:
"Due to an unsafe building the High Street in Ayr is closed until further notice. Traffic and pedestrian movement in the area is restricted.
"Please follow diversions. Traffic using New Bridge Street and Sandgate is unaffected."
