Put your baking skills to the test at Culzean’s Big Bake Off
Dust the flour off your apron and join the National Trust for Scotland’s Big Bake Off at Culzean Castle and Country Park.
Taking place this Sunday (6th August) in a large marquee on Culzean’s Cannon Lawn, both adults and children are asked to bring along their baking masterpiece to be judged by the Big Bake Off judging panel. There will be prizes for the best decorated cake, chocolate cake, sponge cake, fudge and sweets, scones, meringues, cupcakes, gingerbread men and novelty cakes. All children will receive a rosette for taking part. Spectators can also enjoy refreshments in or outside of the marquee whilst listening to live music. Local exhibitors will offer a selection of food, drink and giftware and there will be a range of children’s activities, including face painting, a bouncy castle, balloon modelling and games. Stuart Maxwell, general manager for the National Trust for Scotland Ayrshire & Arran region, said: “Entries are still open for the bake off competitions so please register your interest soon. “Back in its 18th century heyday, the kitchens at Culzean Castle would have been busy from morning to night producing food for the Kennedy family, and may have made a large volume of cakes on a weekly basis. This challenge enables participants to put their baking skills to the test, similar to the castle’s kitchen. “It’s set to be a great day with lots of treats and activities to take part in for all age ranges and we look forward to crowning Culzean’s master bakers.” The National Trust for Scotland is Scotland’s largest conservation charity with 360,000 members and growing, and is the only charity to care for both built and natural heritage. Entry to the park is free for members and normal admission fees apply to non-members.
