Road Policing day of action in North Ayrshire
On Wednesday 18 April 2018 a multi-agency day of action took place focussing on the trade of part worn tyres within North Ayrshire in what is believe to be the first initiative of its type in Scotland.
Road Policing Ayrshire, North Ayrshire Council Trading Standards, SEPA and the charity ‘Tyresafe’ targeted several business premises in the area who deal in the sale of part worn tyres. During the operation a number of tyres were found to be in such a poor state that they were seized by trading standards and removed from sale. Following this operation one business will also be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal. Sergeant Kevin Blackley, Irvine Road Policing Unit, said: “We are committed to improving driver behaviour and reducing injuries on Scotland’s roads through engagement and enforcement of legislation. “This type of initiative, and working in partnership with others, can only serve to reduce the casualty rate on Scotland’s roads and act as a deterrent to those who would deliberately put lives at risk.”
