TRAVEL: A78 South of Fairlie
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ is carrying out road surface improvements to 0.5km of the A78 South of Fairlie.
In order to complete this £110k project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to close the trunk road over the weekend of Friday 13th to Monday 16th of March.
Anthony Chambers, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the works said:
“Further to our extensive consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key stakeholders, the decision was taken to reschedule the earlier dates of the scheme to one that better suited the community. Through this planning process, we have also worked collaboratively to avoid peak holiday periods and local events.
“Because the trunk road is relatively narrow in this area, it isn’t possible to utilise other forms of traffic management. The safety of our employees, our contractors and the travelling public is always of paramount importance in the delivery of our work.
Scotland TranServ understands the implementation of diversion routes causes inconvenience to drivers, and we would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank motorists for their patience while we complete this short project; delivering long-term road surface improvements.”
Traffic management will be implemented during the following times:
8pm on Friday 13th to 6am on Monday 16th of March
Drivers are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes to their journey time, with a local diversion route in place. Special arrangements have been made for emergency service vehicles, however no additional measures will be made for windfarm or oversize vehicles.
