Two men arrested after stealing a car in Kilmarnock
Two men have been arrested and charged by police in relation to a theft from a motor vehicle in Kilmarnock earlier today.
About 1500 hours, on Tuesday 4th February 2020, police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into at West Shaw Street, Kilmarnock. Officers attended immediately and traced the men nearby. Following enquiries the men, age 43 and 51, were arrested in relation to the theft from the vehicle and an earlier theft by shoplifting from a store nearby. Locality Policing Inspector for the area, Jason Peter, said “these arrests are a direct result of team working by staff in local businesses working with police in response to the report of suspicious activity from a vigilant member of the public. “Both men have been held in police custody to appear at Court and a full report sent to the Procurator Fiscal. Thankfully all property was recovered and returned to the owners and we would like to thank everyone involved. “Our town centre officers work tirelessly to target those involved in crime in the area and a key part of their work is building relationships with those who live and work in the town to encourage vigilance and reporting of suspicious activity. “We are committed to working with our partners and communities to improve safety in the area and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak with officers on patrol or to call us on 101.” For more information on your local policing team visit the ‘Your Community’ pages of the Police Scotland website at: www.scotland.police.uk
