Waitrose will not be coming to Ayr bosses have announced!
The supermarket had been expected to expand its facilities by building a new store in Ayr with the proposed store opening in spring this year.
But due to the uncertainty of being able to sustain trade and provide job security for locals, bosses have decided abolish plans to build the Ayr store.
Nigel Keen, Director of Property and Development, Waitrose, said:
“It is with regret that we are no longer in a position to progress with our original plans for a branch in Ayr. The well documented changes in trading conditions across the supermarket sector and rising costs have impacted the viability of the scheme.
“It is not a decision we have taken lightly. When we first brought forward plans in 2013, we set out to make a positive, lasting contribution to the town and looked forward to the prospect of opening there.
"However, we would not wish to continue without absolute confidence that we would be able to trade sustainably and provide job security for those local people we hoped to employ.
“We share in the disappointment this will cause for many local residents and are grateful to everyone who has supported us.”
