Students from Auchenharvie Academy have been given an insight into the world of aircraft engineering during a visit to Prestwick Airport, hosted by Ryanair Engineering, delivered locally by Prestwick Aircraft Maintenance Ltd.

The visit included a guided tour of the hangar facilities alongside an introductory presentation outlining day-to-day operations, career pathways and the skills required to work in the aviation maintenance sector.

Pupils were able to see aircraft engineering in action and ask questions about apprenticeships, training routes and long-term career prospects within the industry.

Staff said the level of engagement from the pupils was encouraging, highlighting strong interest from young people considering technical and engineering careers. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to support and inspire the next generation of engineers across Ayrshire and beyond.

The initiative aligns with wider education and employability priorities supported by Ayrshire College, the Scottish Government, and Developing the Young Workforce - Ayrshire, which aim to strengthen links between schools, colleges and employers.

Prestwick Aircraft Maintenance and Ryanair Engineering continue to play a key role in showcasing real-world engineering environments to local pupils, helping to build awareness of apprenticeship opportunities and the range of careers available within Scotland’s aviation sector.
