Prestwick Leisure Club is making a big splash after its major refurbishment, with new figures showing soaring memberships, rising visitor numbers and major energy savings since reopening.

Councillors on South Ayrshire Council’s Service and Partnerships Performance Panel were given an update on the popular facility on 10 March, following its reopening in October 2025 after an extensive transformation.

The refreshed club has already delivered a strong performance, with active fitness memberships up by 33 per cent compared with levels before closure.

Visitor numbers have also surged. Between October and December 2025, the club recorded 24,113 visits, marking an increase of 38.4 per cent. The Learn2Swim programme has also outperformed previous participation levels, rising by 21 per cent, with attendance in December alone reaching a peak of 3,395.

Alongside the boost in popularity, the refurbishment has also delivered major environmental benefits.

A central aim of the project was to improve energy efficiency, with the SALIX Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme supporting the installation of high-efficiency heating and ventilation systems as well as full LED lighting throughout the building.

The impact has already been significant. Between October and December 2025, gas consumption dropped by 89,100 kWh, a reduction of 39 per cent, while electricity use fell by 44,600 kWh, down 61 per cent compared with the same period in 2023.

The improvements are expected to save South Ayrshire Council more than £40,000 a year.

Jane Bradley, Director of Communities and Transformation for South Ayrshire Council said: “I’m thrilled that the spacious and modern changing village, improved poolside, welcoming reception area and upgraded gym have made a big impression with customers and staff.

“The increasing membership numbers along with the energy efficiency savings are headline grabbing figures. All the installations as part of the SALIX Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme are making a huge difference already.”

The figures point to a strong comeback for Prestwick Leisure Club, with the revamped facility proving popular with fitness members, swimmers and families alike while also cutting running costs and reducing energy use.
